The famous Attenbourough family funded the construction of our Centre for Continual Learning and Development (CCLD). Amazing performance art and inspiring work takes place here. We would now like to complete the ‘construction’ of this beautiful space with the installation of a 13kW solar PV array. Building on our very successful pilot phase during which we installed 22kW solar PV on the roof of our Science and Economics Blocks this adds to our plan to expand our generation capacity to 227kW. Our detailed design phase identified that all of the energy generated will be used in CCLD and Administration Block which are the closest points of consumption.

Sustainable development goals achieved

1 Eradicating poverty in all its forms remains one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. The SDGs are a bold commitment to finish what we started, and end poverty in all forms and dimensions by 2030. This involves targeting the most vulnerable, increasing access to basic resources and services, and supporting communities affected by conflict and climate-related disasters.

Our goal to ensure skills training of local technicians will help achieve the goal of eradicating poverty and ensuring equal opportunity to economic resources through the development of the local solar PV industry.

4 Achieving inclusive and quality education for all reaffirms the belief that education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles for sustainable development. This goal ensures that all girls and boys complete free primary and secondary schooling by 2030. It also aims to provide equal access to affordable vocational training, to eliminate gender and wealth disparities, and achieve universal access to a quality higher education.

Sustainability begins with education. This conference will seek to not only begin the process of designing an embedded curriculum but to also begin turning those principles into on site practice. This is why delegates will include all stakeholders in the community of UWC Colleges from the European region, including students, staff and academics

Sustainable Development SDG

Delegates include academic and operational personnel. The workshop seeks to ensure the development of onsite renewable energy generation commitments to ensure visible climate action

Sustainable Development SDG

In addition to examining their current emissions affecting climate, UWC participants will plan a campaign to ensure future generation of power is through renewable energy. They will also seek to address their historical emissions through programs of mitigation
